Meet The Team at Grettals Petals
Curious? Oh good! Hello from Gretta and the team at Grettals Petals flower shop, Shannon, Co. Clare! We thought it was about time we introduced ourselves and put faces to the names that make it all happen! I am very grateful for my wonderful team! Here we go then; In order of appearance... LET'S GO GIRLS!!! Gretta, Ellen, Louise, Alice and Denise! |
Gretta
I’m originally from the Hill Road, Bunratty, Co. Clare. When I was a kid we didn’t have much, moved around a lot, and this means I now appreciate stability and I feel lucky that I have a roof over my head every night and food on the table. I have a close circle of family and friends and this keeps me sane in this hectic world we live in.
My first “job” was working for Nora Lynch at Lynch’s Bunratty Nursery. They had a fruit and veg shop, grew & sold flowers, & garden plants. It was an honour to work alongside those phenomenal people. My mom is also a keen gardener, She gave me green fingers.
Spending Time with James and my kids and family, tea in the evenings with the family, Netflix (😁), listening to true crime podcasts, listening to Audio books, getting my nails done, dinner out with my friends, and watching my cat Myles and his antics.
Working with wonderful ladies who lift me even on my worst days. I have a few health issues and try to keep my best side out every day. I love meeting people and making them smile.
Wear the good shoes. Wear the good perfume. Always (continue to) use Clarins. Wear sunscreen.
Cosmos…I know … very random. But I love them. They are in the Grettals Petals Logo - a summer garden flowering plant; I first learned of them 18 years ago, when a good friend gave me some cut from her garden, and I placed them whimsically into tiny cups and saucers (in oasis) on the tables for my son’s christening party we had for family and friends at our house. I love them since then.
Ya
Cappuccino ☕️
Hmmmm….depends why I took them off!
Skechers. I’m opening a Skechers shop next. I have so many pairs 😂

* What are your hobbies outside of work? Music, performing, reading, tea with my family, coffee dates with friends
* What is your favourite part of your work and why? Getting to spend time with my best friends and learning about floristry! Getting to learn (through trial and error) about everything online! Marketing and editing… you name it, I have figured it out!

Louise
*Tell us about yourself and where you are from My name is Louise. I’m from Shannon. I have 8 years experience presently in the floristry world. I enjoy spending time with family and friends outside of work. Big fan of Netflix and watching new tv shows. I like walking my dog in my spare time.
*What brought you into the flower industry? I started out doing work experience in a flower shop and gained some knowledge from that. Years passed and I studied beauty therapy in college. At the time I found it difficult to get a job so I was looking for something else in the meantime. A miracle happened and my CV landed in Gretta’s hands. The rest is history.
*What are your hobbies outside of work? My hobbies include walking my dog, travelling as much as I can and spending time with family and friends.
*What is your favourite part of your work and why My favourite part of work is doing unusual orders that are different to everyday work. I enjoy meeting people and make sure they leave with a smile.
*What advice would you give your younger self? Advice I would give my younger self would be not to take life so seriously. There will be ups and downs but I will always get through it.
*Have you any favourite flowers? My favourite flowers are tulips, sunflowers and I know it’s not a flower but eucalyptus.
*Tea or coffee? Coffee all the way!
*Cappuccino or Latte? Cappuccino
*When you take off your shoes do you put them in a pair or everywhere?! Try to pair them but end up everywhere.
*Skechers or Nike? Sketchers are the best for standing all day.

*iOS or Android? And why? IOS, no reason
Alice
* Tell us about yourself and where you are from I'm Alice! Born, raised and living in Shannon and share my Jack Russell puppy Dottie with my boyfriend Darragh. I've been a florist for 3 years and you'll know me in the shop as "the tall one" reaching things on high shelves or with a Coca Cola beside me!
* What brought you into the flower industry Having formerly been a nail technician and working in the beauty industry and having gone to college for fashion styling and image consultancy, the global pandemic put me out of work and made me really think about my work life and I figured a career change was imminent. I saw an job ad for Grettal's Petals and that was it!
* What are your hobbies outside of work? As a member of Shannon Musical Society and Muse Productions I've had several outings on stage, backstage and front of house with both groups. When I'm not performing I support Irish Amateur Theatre by going to see as many musicals and plays as possible with my family and friends! I've always been creative and recently turned my hand to designing and creating greetings cards (Cards by Alice) available here in Grettal's Petals!
* What is your favourite part of your work and why I love the creativity of floristry. From the work that isn't seen, the prep and problem solving to creating a bouquet or arrangement. I love a challenge and enjoy the variety in floristry, no two days are the same!
* What advice would you give your younger self Nobody ever really "knows" what they're doing, everyone is constantly learning and trying trying their best so don't be so hard on yourself. Life goes by so quickly so stop and smell the roses!
* Have you any favourite flowers? My answer changes all the time! Right now I'm loving limonium and lisianthus especially! Brunia and leucospermum are honourable mentions for something more unusual and different!
* Tea or coffee? Both! One after another, you can never have too much caffeine!!!
* Cappuccino or Latte? Can I have a flat white instead?!
* When you take off your shoes do you put them in a pair or everywhere?! Depends on the shoes!
* Skechers or Nike? Sketchers for the comfort but a good Nike shoe never goes astray
* Plain chocolate or milk chocolate? How about a can of Coca Cola?
* iOS or Android? And why? ANDROID 100%- if you know, you KNOW!
